COMMITMENT TO CHRISTIAN UNITY

HOPE’s Internship is a personal development program for invited interns who desire to give a period of intensive service to help the poor, further their character development and spiritual formation while gaining valuable workplace and professional experience.

Even though HOPE is founded upon Holiness-Pentecostal/Charismatic Evangelical principles, we are ecumenical and value Christians from all traditions and wish to work with those can uphold the basic tenants of our core values and abide by our standards of conduct.  We have established an environment that fosters unity.  We strive to be a place where Christians from various traditions can celebrate their commonalities explore their differences and learn to appreciate one another as Christians within the greater Body of Christ.  Here we all can learn from one another as we work together to fulfill the Great Commandment (Matthew 22: 36-40), the Great Commitment (Matthew 25: 35,36 & 40) and Great Commission (Matthew 28: 18-20).

Our extreme summer experience is based upon the biblical principles found in:

  • The tenants within our own Holiness-Pentecostal tradition that a personal encounter with the Holy Spirit will empower us to live a life of holiness and evangelize the world, and;

  • The foundational evangelical enthusiasm to see people become discipled followers of Christ, and;

  • The Franciscan sense of community and commitment to serve the poor;

Interns from other Christian denominations are invited and encouraged to participate in HOPE’s summer extreme experience. They too are expected to participate in public worship services and events of the Sanctuary of Hope. They are also encouraged and expected to practice their faith according to the requirements of their own church. All interns, while associated with HOPE, are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with HOPE’s standards of conduct.

HOPE will provide the support of staff (laity, clergy, missionary staff and volunteer; as well as partners from local leaders within the intern’s own tradition) to serve as Co-Ministers for this experience.  The Co-Ministers will provide on-going guidance and orientation during the course of the program and serve as liaisons between the interns, student leaders and members of staff, Sanctuary of Hope and the greater community. Spiritual direction and counseling will also be made available upon request.
