HOPE’S ACTION REPORT - HURRICANE FLORENCE, Monday September 17, 2018, 12:36 a.m.

For three days bands of torrential rain and wind hovered over SENC and Northern South Carolina as Hurricane Florence crawled westward at 2-3 MPH. She left on her wake a new history of high flooding and total devastation. Rivers across the region have flooded their banks at their highest levels ever recorded and flooded tens of thousands out of their homes. 17 people have died. More than a million homes are without electricity.

 

Hope Charitable Services (HOPE) has established our warehouse in Lumberton, NC. It is a hundred yards from Interstate 95 and less than two hours from those suffering the most both north and southward. We have 22 Churches in the hardest hit areas committed to become Community Relief Stations. HOPE is working in a close partnership with Operation Compassion, World Vision, Operation Blessing and Gleaning For The World. Together we will supply local relief stations at various Churches across the disaster zone with life-essential supplies as they minister to their communities. The strength that HOPE brings is threefold: (1) We have the relationships necessary to establish an immediate regional relief & recovery warehouse, in addition to the partners, volunteers and assets necessary to receive tractor-trailer loads of supplies; (2) we have the ability to navigate high water hurdles and distribute to remote relief stations with our high-wheel-base commercial delivery truck; and (3) we can leverage our resources and relationships to increase our capacity to attract more goods and do more good.

During Hurricane Matthew in 2017, HOPE delivered 57 tractor-trailer loads of relief supplies to SENC. We are prepared to do more in response to Hurricane Florence. During the aftermath of Hurricane Florence HOPE has committed to provide a warehouse and manpower to serve the I-95 Corridor and eastward across both North and South Carolina through Christmas. We will deliver goods to local relief stations operated by Churches and community evacuation shelters. Local churches will serve as liaisons to the shelters. This will help churches build goodwill and influence in their communities. Hope’s team is already in Lumberton. It costs HOPE up to $1,800.00 to ship a tractor-trailer load of relief supplies to our warehouse in Lumberton. It costs $400.00 a day to operate our delivery trucks. Can you please help?
